We are continuously reviewing updated guidelines from public health authorities and plan to reopen as soon as we safely can. Currently the staff is available by phone and email from 9:30 am to 5:00 pm Monday through Friday. Please keep your library materials at home rather than returning them to the book drop during the closure. Overdue fines will not be charged during this time. Magnolia Flower Clay Relief Friday, May 8th, 12:00-2:00 p.m. on Zoom Open to adults & teens in grades 9+ Make a beautiful magnolia out of polymer clay in this fun virtual project led by local artist Debbie Jaffe. Once registered, you will receive an invitation to the Zoom meeting via email on the day of the event. Please gather these supplies in advance: 4×4 tile or 4×4 piece of cardboard fully covered in aluminum foil Black, white, or neutral colored polymer clay. Please email Janet Flewelling at jflewelling@lioninc.org by Sunday, May 3rd if you need clay. The library has a limited supply available to deliver. Rolling pin, large round dowel, or fat marker for rolling Shaping tools like small spoons, cuticle tools, forks, and knives Acrylic paints, Sharpies, pastels, or old makeup palettes for coloring polymer clay Paint brushes, makeup applicators, or Q-tips (fingers will also work) Please contact Janet Flewelling at jflewelling@lioninc.org if have questions about acceptable supplies. After the program, you will need to bake your polymer clay sculpture according to the manufacturer’s instructions. This project is inspired by Christy Sherman’s relief sculptures . Virtual Creative Writing for Teens Monday, May 4th at 6:00 p.m. Grades 6-12 Registration is required Unleash your creativity as a writer, while learning the tricks of the trade in a fun, supportive space. Young adult author Shari Arnold and MFA candidate Amy Bowers will help you discover and develop your unique voice in a series of writing sessions. Bring your works for critique. Whether you write fiction, non-fiction, poetry, manga, or graphic novels you will learn to love writing more than you already do. These workshop will be held via Zoom. If you do not have access to a computer or tablet, you may join the fun by phone! Please register in advance in order to receive an invitation to the workshops. Virtual VITA Tax Assistance Due to the COVID-19 outbreak, the U.S. Government has extended the federal income tax filing deadline to July 15, 2020. Free tax assistance is available virtually for those who earned less than $56,000 in 2019. Complete a VITA Intake Form to start the process.
